Stay Safe

Ensuring that Children and Young People Stay Safe is vital in today's changing society. To achieve this we must enable young people to make informed and responsible choices.

The Young Pioneer Stay Safe programme teaches young people how to identify risks, understand how to take positive action to reduce those risks and enable them with the skills to make safe choices.

The programme supports young people to develop the confidence to take on new experiences safely, and to develop the appropriate skills to resist negative influences.

Young People who participate in our course learn how to:

  • Travel to school or to meet friends safely
  • How to interact with adults
  • How to manage conflict
  • How to manage their possessions
  • Street sense and interacting with other young people
  • Dealing with bullying

For many young people the transition from primary school to secondary school is a major upheaval. It may well be the first time that they have made choices without adult supervision. Our programme is designed to help these young people make that transition safely.

We work with primary schools and secondary schools to make this transition safe and enjoyable.

Our one day school engagement programme is fully accredited by EDI and prepares young people to make the move to secondary school safely.

Using an intuitive traffic light system the young people are taught how to identify Safe, Unsafe and Dangerous situations; to show them how to take appropriate action.

We are currently delivering this award in primary schools with financial support from Save the Children.

Many secondary schools we work with raise funds through non uniform days to support their primary feeder schools going through this programme. If you would like find out more please contact staysafe@youngpioneers.org

Thank you to Save the Children for their support.
